My daughter is 4 and like other children her age, she has a vivid imagination and loves to build and create things. We do not buy her electronic toys and she does not play with tablets or video games. We want her to play with items that are fun yet educational, and expand her learning and imagination. She loves Legos (the medium size ones) and she love blocks. We were able to try out a toy that is incredible in several aspects.
Click-A-Brick sent us a 30 piece Animal Kingdom Safari set (Amazon). This educational building block set is for children aged 4 and up. Click-A-Brick's can be connected from all sides and corners; even forming diagonal lines (my daughter's favorite aspect, as she made steps several times).
We had to stay at a hotel for 3 weeks last month due to a water pipe emergency of freezing pipes, pipes bursting, and then some mild flooding in the lower level of our home. I had to pack 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 10 month old in a short 2 hour window (unplanned). I was not sure how long we would need to stay at the hotel (I planned for a week and a half) and I was not sure what to bring to entertain her. Her brother was easy, cloth diapers, baby toiletries, soft toys, ball, play mat, his food jars, and his clothing. Along with her clothing, my 4 year old needed books, coloring supplies, her baby doll (and her accessories) and then I was stuck, what else? My 4 year old would be in a 2 room suite hotel with me and the baby while her father was at work all day. I had been sent the Click a Brick set a few days earlier and wasn't sure if she would get much use out of it, but figured I would bring it.
The set is 30 pieces, at first (before she played with it) I thought that the amount was too little. When I first tested it, I thought she might have trouble pulling the bricks apart as they fit very tight. She had absolutely no issues at all. The entire 3 weeks we were at the hotel, she carried this set with her. The 30 pieces were perfect as they were just enough to make animals, robots, and other items (vacuum cleaners) yet no pieces got lost, despite the fact that she carried the finished products from different areas of the room, to even a restaurant!
This bricks are sturdy and stay together well. She is improving her motor and dexterity skills as well as learning spatial reasoning. The Animal Kingdom Safari set comes with instructions on how to various creatures and animals. She has made the giraffe and dog, but had the most fun making various robots she created and even made a vacuum cleaner to pretend to clean up her white playdough crumbs. Unfortunately the vacuum did not pick up the crumbs but she had fun making the actions and noises pretending it was real.
Click-A-Brick is an excellent toy and she played with it more than any of the other items we brought. The product is very durable and she would quickly make another 3D creature after she was finished with the first. It was difficult to get photographs as she had this with her the entire time, I would have loved to have shown you the dog, but I assure you it looked just like the "diagram" as my 4 year old calls instructions with pictures.
The only thing I would have improved is to include a cloth draw string storage bag as the box did not provide adequate storage. A bag would have made it easy to take a finished creature with her if she was not ready to disassemble.
*1 Click a Brick set was sent to me for review, this is a loved toy, and my husband and I, along with our daughter highly recommend it.
