NutNet Welded Nut Milk Bag by Kitchezen: Reviewed GIVEAWAY!

I have made almond milk previously using a nut milk mesh bag and it is a great experience. It is not overwhelming or difficult, and not as messy as I had once imagined. I had so much confidence from my use of a nut milk bag that I decided that this time I wanted to make a cold brew coffee. My husband and I normally use our awesome brewer of popular fame (yes that one), but I had heard about cold brew coffee recently and was interested, since I like my coffee drinks either blended with ice or over ice. Brewing it hot means I need to either use a lot of ice to cool it and then the ice melts into the drink and causes watered down beverages, or I need to wait patiently for it to cool before making my coffee drink of choice. I am not as keen on either of those options. I decided I would make up a batch of full strength cold brew coffee and once it was finished, I would blend it in my blender with ice and the goodies I add.

The nutmilk bag I used for this fun adventure was from the Kitchezen company. It is referred to as "NutNet Milk Bag" and is different from other nut milk bags because it is made differently. It has an "ultrasonic welded" sturdy seam, and boasts twice the strength of the competitors. This nut milk bag is a 1 gallon nylon mesh with a handy drawstring at the top that allows it to be closed tightly and securely while in use, and then hung to dry after washing. This bag can be used for extracting milk from almonds (or other nuts) or for steeping tea with fresh tea leaves and even making cold brew coffee!

The preparation was easy. I scooped out 1/2 cup of freshly ground coffee, and put it in a glass container. I then added 2 cups of cold filtered water, and stirred it together. If it looks like the mud pies or mud soup you made as a child, you are doing it right. :) I then put this in the fridge and covered for 8 hours. Make sure you tell other household members so they do not get all excited seeing a glass pan in the fridge that from a short distance can resemble brownie batter (my husband) Luckily this coffee brew smelled strong enough to not be mistaken for a unbaked brownie treat.

After the 8 hours is over, pour the mixture into a bowl with the nut milk mesh bag over it, acting as a strainer. Make sure to pour slowly as this will splatter if you are not careful (yes). The coffee brew concentrate goes through the bag, and all of the grounds are caught. You can then squeeze gently on the bag to extract more caffeine rich goodness into the bowl (this makes a nice strong brew).

I then add about half a glass of milk, and a 1/2 cup cold brew coffee concentrate to my blender, along with about 4 ice cubes (since this is cold, it doesn't melt into my coffee and water it down and the ice makes it nice and frosty.) I then add about 1 heaping tablespoon of pure cacao chocolate powder (for a boost of antioxidants and for the chocolate flavor), 2 caps of pure vanilla extra (mine is alcohol free--as regular baking extracts are 35% alcohol), 1 tablespoon of pure local raw honey, blend well, and then pour into a glass. I sprinkled some cacao powder on top along with some cinnamon. Delicious!

Since I had some coffee concentrate left over, I decided to make a treat for my husband as well. I decided to change his up for fun. I used the same amount of milk and coffee, however added about 1/4 cup of mint chocolate chip ice cream, 1 heaping tablespoon of cacao powder, 3 ice cubes, and 2 caps of vanilla extract, and blended. It turned out really good--I tried a sip. It was not too sweet and the mint was not overpowering. It had just enough mint flavor to making it refreshing. Unfortunately we did not get a picture of his concoction, as his tasted even better than mine and did not last long.

We are happy with this nut milk bag. I was very surprised at how it was barely stained with coffee afterwards. I washed it under hot water and used a few drops of dish soap. It is very sturdy and will be used often. Cold brewing was a success!
