Lavo Facial Mud Mask: Reviewed

Mud masks, I love them and have tried many in my lifetime. They have generally been charcoal or sulfur based and usually have some sort of clay in them. These types are wonderful for clearing up blemishes and drawing out toxins from the skin. I have always had large pores and seem to always get dark black heads on my nose, cheeks, and chin. Some of my previously tested masks have definitely been better than others. I have found one that is a treat to use and ultra pampering. It is called the Lavo Facial Mud Mask. It is gentle and powerful at the same time. It comes in a plastic jar and a little goes a long way as this is a thick mud. It can be used alone, or try using it with some witch hazel and 1-2 drops of peppermint essential oil mixed into a small mini sauce ramekin or small cup, then apply to face. I like adding the peppermint oil and witch hazel to provide a touch of icy cool sensation.

This is how I apply the mask:
Using clean fingertips, and a freshly washed face, I apply a generous layer over my entire face. The directions say to leave this on for 5 to 15 minutes, however, I have no irritation when leaving on longer, so I like to leave this on for 20-30 minutes or until it starts to crumble and crack. I generally put this on at night, and read a few emails or browse the internet while it dries.

Those with sensitive skin types might desire to dilute a small amount of this mud mask with water (50/50 ratio) prior to application, and only leave on 5-10 minutes.

I love how I can feel it working as it dries and tightens on my skin. The clays in this mask help absorb oils and draw out impurities and dirt from my pores. The essential oils and the Aloe Vera are soothing and healing to my skin while reducing inflammation. Vitamin E provides antioxidant protection against free radicals and also nourishes skin. The mask smells fresh and provides soothing aromatherapy for me. Eucalyptus and Sage Oils not only make this smell wonderful, but they heal, stimulate, & improve blood circulation. Those oils are anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial. I use Eucalyptus oil daily in our homemade cleaning / disinfecting solutions, and also in our homemade baby cloth wipe solution for those reasons. Essential oil keeps things fresh and sanitary.

This mud is a bit more difficult to apply or smooth onto my skin than other masks I have tried, but I am thinking it is due to all the wonderful clays and powders it contains. It is not watered down, it is very thick. When my mask is ready to remove, I begin gently rubbing in a circular motion with warm water. This also is a mini massage and is great for circulation. After my face is free of mud, I pat dry and then follow with witch hazel toner (I use Thayer's Lemon) and moisturizer.

This mask is perfect for acne spot treatment overnight as well, as it will help with redness and draw out the blemish. The acne spot is less red and less irritated in the morning. Often I use this on my nose only as that is where all my blackheads seem to hang out. I apply this mask 2 times a week. This is one of the best ones I have used. The ingredients are impressive. My husband has used this mud for his face as well. :)

Zinc Oxide assists with over production of oil on the face (got a shiny face?), and unclogs pores. This mask contains moisturizing ingredients, such as Glycerin (a natural humectant that draws moisture) that calm and pamper skin. It feels and smells high end, reminiscent of a spa treatment in a salon. I like how this mask is made in the USA in "Advanced FDA Registered Facility." The company has 100% satisfaction guaranteed, which is always important. I recommend this brand highly. I will definitely consider purchasing this when this jar is used up.
