So we now have 4 kids (as of 2 weeks ago--baby girl is here) and it was bound to finally happen. One of my kids (ages 9, 5, and 3) drew on our wall with crayon! It was not the fancy "washable" crayon. It was the kind where few products remove it without serious scrubbing action. I was not thrilled. Our 3 year old son decided to use his artistic ability to decorate our walk-in closet wall. This happened about a month ago and I just finally got around to removing it. I was incredibly pregnant last month and simply moving my body was difficult. :) I was mainly on bed rest for the last month of my pregnancy and did not do much in the way of cleaning. The "art" took up most of the wall (all the way to the floor and wherever he could reach with a chair). Before I have judgmental eyes :) on where I was when he was doing this, those of you with young kids know that a child can make a large disaster of a mess in less than 5 minutes time. I am just happy it was not permanent marker. (yikes)
I knew that lemon essential oil would be the ticket to cleaning the crayon but at the moment I did not have the oil and did not have the energy to try to use oil even after getting the needed oil. I left this art work for most of the month. Our closet is a walk in/walk thru closet, and we passed this daily, multiple times. We were reminded of his talent every day.
I was happy to be able to review some lemon essential oil from a company called Mary Tylor Naturals. This is a natural bath and body supply company based in Florida that sells a variety of skin care and bath products. Here are some of the wonderful items they produce:
I received this oil and was delighted that it arrived in a cardboard box, wrapped in a cellophane. This was not only an attractive way to receive it but I was pleased that it ensured that the oil did not accidentally spill on anything else had I ordered another item from Amazon. The oil arrives in an amber glass bottle and is gently packed in the box with a foam around it to keep the glass protected. There is a dropper in the box for the user to attach when they are ready.
The oil is high quality and smells amazing. It definitely smells like lemon. The oil is USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC Lemon Essential oil and is 100% Pure and Natural. The oil is "Cold Pressed From Hand Picked, fresh Organic Lemons". Cold pressing is important as it does not use heat that could change or destroy aspects of the product. This is a pure product and is free of any pesticides and other chemicals.
I find that lemon essential oil is uplifting to my mood and just makes the room smell amazing. I use this to freshen the room by adding to a spray bottle with some water and either Vodka or rubbing alcohol and then misting the air. I like to use a glass amber bottle with a spray head.
I also like to use a mixture of vinegar, water, and lemon essential oil to disinfect and clean our kitchen counters and table. It also freshens the air when the counters are wiped with this mixture.
I love this product and I highly recommend it. I used it earlier today and the crayon wiped away within seconds. I had a large area to do but each section was cleared immediately. There was no scrubbing involved. I did not take a photo of the entire wall, however, you can get an idea of the before and after:
This last photo above still has some blue crayon remaining (I did a really quick cleaning job as my 2 week old started crying in our bedroom). I was able to finish cleaning it up but this shows how easy it is to remove stubborn crayon from a wall. It also made the closet and attached bedroom smell wonderful! I suggest you get a bottle of lemon essential oil as it is a versatile and great oil.
