Menthonol Lotion for Sore Muscles and Joint Pain Review

I was sent some muscle relief lotion from Menthonol. I have frequent back pain and my 7-year-old has leg pain at night. I am thinking it is the common growing pains like I have when I was her age. I remember they felt like Charley Horses in my legs and I would cry about them. I have used this on her legs and although it makes her legs a little chilly cold, she appreciates that this helps with the pain. She does not take OTC medication when she has pain. We keep things as natural as possible. This cream and a banana (potassium) usually help her relax enough to go back to bed. My husband uses this cream on his tired, achy legs, feet and ankles. I use it on my back, neck, and forehead. Even though I mainly get migraines, I often have tension/stress headaches as well. This helps with lessening some of the pain when I use it around my forehead and temples. I like using it on my lower back as I frequently have lower back pain. My husband has frequent shoulder pain due to the way he sleeps.

I love that this cream is natural and does not contain petroleum. We do not use Vicks vapor rub as it contains petroleum and turpentine oil. I have had several colds this winter, due to a first grader who brings home her friend's colds. It seems that a lot of her friends go to school when they are still very sick and contagious. I am guessing their parents both work and do not want to stay home? :)

I kid you not, I have had at least one cold every 4-6 weeks since October. I have only tested this cream for a month, but I used it during my most recent cold. I suffer from frequent, miserable, stuffed up nasal passages and sneezing. I cannot breathe when I get colds. I never take OTC cold medicines, except for the occasional homeopathic children's' Zarbees. This is a great menthol lotion to put up high on my chest and near my neck to breathe in some of the vapors. For my kids, I put menthol cream on the bottom of their feet and cover them with socks.

When I found out that this had Emu oil, I was super excited. I love that oil because it is transdermal and goes deep into the tissue and helps with pain. Arnica oil is another fantastic ingredient!

Here are the ingredients, straight from the website: (The following was copied and pasted exactly from the Menthonol website.)

MENTHONOL INGREDIENTS (including ingredients approved by the US FDA for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with arthritis, strains, and simple backache):
  • SEANOL-S: powerful, patented extract from the Ecklonia cava marine algae with powerful healing properties, including:  healthy inflammatory responses that both heal and protect as a result of improved blood condition and flow; significant blood circulation improvements and overall promotion of vascular   health that heals joints, muscles and surrounding tissue; and strong anti-oxidant scavenging of free radicals that reduces oxidative stress and promotes healthy cellular function.
  • MENTHOL: one of nature’s most effective pain relievers, menthol has analgesic properties that provide relief from many aches and pains.  In response to inflammation, menthol delivers a strong cooling sensation by stimulating receptors that recognize temperature change and cause “cold” signals to be sent to the brain providing relief from the painful “burning” of inflammation.
  • CAMPHOR: delivers dual cooling and heating sensations.  When applied it cools and numbs nerve endings and a short time later it warms the painful area as it increases healing circulation to stiff and sore muscles or joints.  This analgesic effect is highly effective in reducing or eliminating the pain messaging being transmitted from sore or injured areas of the body.
  • EMU OIL: includes a powerful trans-dermal agent that can penetrate deep into and beyond the top layers of skin.  It contains high levels of linoleic acid, which is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid known to ease joint discomfort and reduce swelling.
  • ARNICA OIL: Potent healing properties are generally attributable to its thymol and helenalin compounds. Both compounds can be effective as a vasodilator of subcutaneous blood capillaries, which helps facilitate the flow of blood and acts to promote healthy inflammatory responses and to assist normal healing processes.  Specifically, arnica oil aids in stimulating the flow of white blood cells, which process congested blood to help disperse trapped fluid from the joints, muscles and bruised tissue.
