Oceana Brazil Premium Single Serve K-cup Review

I drink iced coffee a few times per week. My husband drinks about 2 cups of hot coffee per day. We enjoy trying new coffee brands and varieties. I was sent a light to medium roast k-cup style coffee from Oceana coffee. I had not heard of this brand previously but thought I would give them a try as I liked their story. I like supporting family-owned business companies. According to the brand, it is roasted in small-batches and is the 2016 Golden Bean champion roaster & Australian International Coffee Award Winner. The interesting thing about this coffee is that it was started by a regular coffee lover named Scotty and his wife Amy. They bought a "$35 popcorn maker off of eBay and converted it into a coffee roasting machine." He and his wife traveled internationally and enjoyed expertly crafted top quality coffee. They wanted to craft a "green" coffee that was made in small, handcrafted batches and mirrored the coffee he and his wife enjoyed on their travels. He did not want a mass-produced coffee. He and his wife have been able to master a coffee that maintains a smooth and subtle fruity undertone, excellent flavor, intoxicating aroma, and is environmentally conscious. I think they have succeeded.

I have been enjoying this coffee the last 2 weeks. I have brewed it in my Keurig machine and then allow it to cool in the fridge a few hours. I then pour it into a large glass or my peacock feather printed Tervis cup with whole milk and some whipped cream. I do not add sugar as the real whipped cream is plenty sweet. I fill my glass with ice cubes to make it extra frosty. When I am in a hurry to get a caffeine boost (stay at home mommy of 3 children ages 6 and under) I put my freshly brewed coffee in the freezer about an hour to cool it before adding my milk and cream.

I like this coffee a lot. It tastes great and is not bitter. The only thing I am not fond of is the thickness of the bottom. It is thicker than my other kcup brands. It sometimes is difficult to puncture completely through on the first attempt to insert into my machine. The packaging is awkward, with the exposed area near the top. This is just my experience, I have not heard of this issue with other users. I would prefer the company to use the exposed bottom kcups that I have used in the past. I currently do not have any of those to compare, but in my picture below, I show the difference with another kcup I have that is slightly thinner on the bottom. I do want to mention, however, that all of Oceana’s plastic products, (except for their plastic lids which are made from recycled content), are produced from corn and are 100% compostable. My other brand, is one from the grocery store and is not as environmentally friendly as Oceana unfortunately.

I received this coffee complimentary for my honest opinion. You can purchase this coffee on Oceana's website or on Amazon.
