Solar Powered Light Jar By Solar Serenity Review

I have always wanted to make a Pinterest-worthy Mason jar porch light. Actually, have wanted to make about six of them and have three on each side of the front porch. I consider myself a crafty person, but free time is not always available when you are a stay at home mommy to three young children and you work from home part-time. I was sent a mason jar lantern that is solar powered with four led lights. I figured I would give it a try, and if I loved it, I might invest in some for our porch. I looked at the price and figured, these jar lights by Serenity must be some awesome ones as the current sale price was a steep $25, and if I was going to have six, I would need them to be sturdy and work perfectly for years.

Unfortunately, this is not my dream mason jar lantern. This one looks nice hanging on our shepherds hook on the back porch, and gives a lovely country cottage charm, but it does not give off a consistent illumination at night. There is a magnet on top that you connect which turns the led light on. The four leds charge during the day when the switch is set to the off position. I would forget to turn the switch off, and the next morning, the lantern would not charge in the sun. When the following night would come, the led is worn out and faint or completely dark. I was only able to get them to glow when I charged it outside with the magnet in the off position to save the solar battery, then went outside later that evening to connect the magnet. I am unable to remember to keep turning it on and off. I would have liked it to be able to charge all day and then come on automatically when it is dark outside.

The Solar Serenity Jar is on Amazon. It is a lovely lantern and very attractive to look at, but I had to flip the magnet switch on each time I wanted to use it. I need something that I can leave out all day in the sun and have it illuminate in the evening without having to remember to flip the switch on and off each day. I would suggest this lantern as a temporary use item and not for extended, daily use.

This was sent to me for review. I like the idea of it, but it does not fit our needs. I would suggest it for a temporary outside party or to use inside a sunny window. It was difficult for me to remember to flip the switch each day. I wanted to use this one to illuminate our back porch step. We live out in the country and do not use our porch light as it attracts scary looking bugs and flying insects to our back door (and inside our home). I was hoping this would charge during the day and then automatically turn on so it would be waiting for us when we would come home on late evenings.
