St. Croix Valley Naturals Heating Pads: Eye Pillows: Reviewed

Several weeks ago I reviewed a back heating pad and loved it.  It was from the St. Croix Valley Naturals company and the bag  was filled with pure organic flax.  It was very generously sized, yet I could fold it up and heat it in the microwave on a plate.  As it is getting chilly here, I am bringing it out to keep my legs warm and cozy.  If you missed the review, you can find it here.

The company makes a variety of heating pads and heating pillows for all sorts of ailments, warm, and relaxation.   I loved the back pillow / leg pillow heating pad so much that I requested to review an eye pillow since I have frequent migraines a few times a week.  I was sent 2 beautiful eye pillow heating pads.  The first one is their organic print eye pillow in a cat eye shape.   The color is a natural cream tone with a nice beige wooden reed like pattern on the front.  The part that touches your eyelids/face soft and slightly fuzzy.  I like how this has a removable and washable cover, which is useful for keeping it looking bright cream colored and stain free, in case I forget to remove my makeup before using the pillow.

My eyes get puffy and sore when I am overly tired and have been staring at the computer screen.  I also get frequent migraines and this does soothe and help relieve some of the pain.  This pillow rests on my eyelids, providing a gentle form of pressure and heating (or cooling) which is quite comforting.  The shape of it rests on the top of my cheeks and nose.  I warm it in the center of the microwave on a dinner plate for 2 intervals of 30 seconds each, and this makes it the perfect temperature for me.  The directions say to make sure not to over heat, as this could cause scorching to the pillow, but also potentially burn the skin.

I like to use it in a dark room, on my freshly washed face, place it heated over my eyes, and listen to my ocean sounds cd.  The price is reasonable at $25, as it is classy, organic, hand crafted, and very well made.  The label is attractive and the seems are sturdy and neatly stitched.

I actually use it cold sometimes as well, mainly for when my 3 1/2 year old bumps her head (frequently) or her arm, or leg, etc. since it can go in the freezer.  I put it in a clear baggy, as it keeps it clean.  We always have several bags of frozen blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries and I am not always the best at keeping the bags fully closed.  I would be sad if I stained my precious eye pillow.  Our regular ice packs are too cold for my daughter.  She always takes the icepack off immediately when I try to put it wrapped in a cloth on her head, but the flax pillow is more comfortable for her to use chilled on her bumped head.

The other eye pillow I was sent is a floral one and is absolutely beautiful as well.  I am quite fond of floral patterns, and this one is no exception.  It has shades of lavender, orange, and green on a natural cream colored background.  The pattern reminds me of a field of wildflowers.  This one is $15 and a rectangle shape.  I mainly use it as a wrist rest when I use my laptop mouse sometimes.  Sometimes I heat it to help with my sore wrist.  It can also be used for eyes of course, and to relieve tension and stress, but lately my wrist hurts me and this helps a lot.

I think the company should make these long enough for placing in front of computer and laptop keyboards as a heated (or unheated) rest for both wrists when typing.  I have not been formally diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel, but my wrists ache and cramp quite frequently.

Dawn and Ross are the owners of St. Croix Valley Naturals.  It all started with a pair of foot warmers for Ross.  Cold winters were unpleasant at night and Ross and Dawn needed to find something to keep them warm.  There were not many options for items that were sustainably made, effective, and organic.  Dawn began making foot warmers and all kinds of useful products.  Their passion for environmental and social awareness, love for people, and organic products, created St. Croix Valley Organics, a company where the products provide a solution for everyday aliments.

The other items range from hand warmers / mittens, contoured neck wraps, sock warmers, and more.
I like how the items are made in Minnesota, which is refreshing to see an actual state name on the product where it was made.  I am always saddened when I use a product, then casually check to see where it was made, and then find out it is not US made.  Our family likes to buy local, handmade and US made whenever possible.  It just seems even more special when it is handmade.  It seems to contain so much love in the product.

This company desires for every customer to have their needs filled and their feet, hands, and hearts warmed by their products.  If for any reason you have a problem with something you have purchased, contact them and they will exchange or return your item.

To connect with Dawn and Ross and Contact St. Croix Naturals, you can send them a message on their website or find them on Etsy.  You can also find them on Facebook.

These 2 eye pillows were sent to me as a courtesy in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
