Premium Jumbo Stainless Steel Drinking Straws from Eco at Heart: Reviewed

If you read my blog regularly, you know how much I love smoothies and protein shakes. I always prefer using a straw as my teeth do get quite sensitive to cold items. We keep a glass container on the table that has plastic straws for our 3 1/2 year old daughter. I had been using the plastic straws daily as well (usually 1 or 2 myself), and although we can find a pack of these straws for under $2 at the grocery store, we did not like so much waste.

I was given the opportunity to try out a stainless steel drinking straw. I was intrigued as we are fond of stainless steel products and I had not heard of drinking straws made this way. The brand is called Eco at Heart and these are 8.5" long and 3/8" thick. The straws come in a pack of 5, in a nice gift ready cardboard box.

They are dishwasher safe, and have been run through the washer several times in the past month with no melting, bending, or damage. They are also able to be cleaned by hand as they come with a mini brush, that is almost a hybrid of a baby bottle brush and pipe cleaner. :)

I think these are perfect for my smoothies. I also make homemade almond milk and they work great. I must admit sometimes I am a water bottle user (store bought) and the straws fit. I do still have my 3 1/2 year old use the plastic straws as I worry she will trip while carrying this in her cup and fall onto this straw and poke her face or eye. She is also prone to biting on straws so I do not want to introduce these to her until she is over that habit. The straw edges are rather smooth, so there is not much worry about them cutting, however I like to be on the safe side.

I find that these stainless steel straws are perfect to use with smoothies and milk shakes, they seem to make my drink stay a little frostier, and being 18/8 grade stainless steel, there is no worry about them rusting or bending. I have no lingering flavors or odors from these straws. They wash up clean, and I am enjoying them. They are FDA Certified, however sadly made in CHINA. My heart sank when I saw where they are made.

The manufacturer suggest that we try storing the stainless steel straws in the freezer to keep drinks chilled, however, I have visions of that scene from "The Christmas Story" movie where the kid gets his tongue stuck to the metal pole in winter. I am a bit afraid to try this. :)
